June 2004 - Mounting the Boards

When the strips were up, Vincent commented, "The walls are somehow instantly framed."

Mounting Strips

Securing strips. Mei Chin related to me how Leng and Vincent had to redo the entire back room as one of the strips gave way.

This reminds me of a painting teacher, Tim Nichols, who went ranting around the studio during free-time painting - "FAIL! LET YOURSELVES FAIL. YOU WILL NEVER MAKE A DISCOVERY UNTIL YOU LET YOURSELVES FAIL."

Mocha Strip with hooks

The goblets seem to be saluting Leng and Vincent.

The lime strips and the mocha strips worked very differently as the limewalls had graffiti. One framed, the other somehow bisected and blended at the same time.

There's that solidity of coming out from within that particularly appealed to me.

I am secretly terrified of the unknown that Brigid and I will be encountering in October. We're great pals, but we've never worked on a piece before. Husband and wives can scratch out each other's eyeballs and still make up. I am secretly fearful for my hair...and eyeballs.

Human spool

I love this shot!

See Mei Chin in red? She's the human spool. You should have seen her twirling and concentrating.

The strings get tangled up really easily. The boys pull and make dead knots. The girls work through the knots. The boys kept offering us scissors as a way out.

Pah, scissors.

As bad as guns.

Cold and precise.

I would have bitten the string into two. I like the frayed ends.

But Mei Chin, the peacekeeper, doggedly worked through the tangles with her fingers.

Do the dance Aunty Peng Ean!

My favourite memory of the day. I couldnt take a photo of myself.

I was twirling like a human spool and Sean,5, and Dylan, 3, kept cheering me on.
