June 2004 - Sawing

Leng got down to work. I couldn't make her first few visits. On one of her planning visits, I saw her hunched over the sewing machine table at Gone Fishing.

I took a peek at her sketch. Didn't take a photo over her shoulders just in case she got annoyed by the interruption. So no picture for the Artfields Diaries.

The next time I visited Gone Fishing, they've already bought the boards. Vincent was sawing away.

Mapping

But first you've got to map the wall to the wood.

There is no way of deciphering Leng's mapping.

Except for Vincent.

Strips of Wood

Leng's decided to modify the techinicalities a little. In Canada, where Wave took it's first form, hooks were mounted directly to the gallery wall.

Leng didn't want to pockmark Gone Fishing's brick walls.  So, strips of wood were used as anchors instead.

Mahjonged Walls

Leng and Vincent tacked mahjong paper over the entire landscape of the cafe walls.

Then mapped the mahjong paper onto a wooden board.

Then ZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEANGGGG
GGGGGGGGGGG

If you've heard wood being cut, you'll know you'll need strong eardrums to be an artist.

Then Drip

Lime and mocha.

The colours of Gone Fishing.

Then Dry

The sun helped.

The Aunty next door/upstairs didnt appreciate her front door area filled with newspapers and strips.

But she warmed up quickly enough.

The folks at Al Ameen and the neighbouring spa thought we were renovating Gone Fishing.
